Depicted in this antique hand-carved panel is a graceful representation of Parvati as Shakti, shown in Lasya dance posture, the feminine, creative counterpart to Shiva’s Tandava.

The goddess displays auspicious gestures and flowing movement, symbolising fertility, harmony, protection and divine feminine energyThis refined iconography is typical of late Rajput and Malwa devotional wood carving.

This panel is one of a pair of companion devotional panels recently sourced together. The second depicts of Rama and Sita. SHOWN TOGETHER IN LAST THREE IMAGES. SEE SEPARATE LISTING.

Architectural devotional wood panels of this quality are increasingly scarce, especially when iconographically complementary examples survive together. The pairing of Shakti, divine power, with Rama–Sita, dharma and virtuemakes this an especially appealing set for collectors of Indian art, temple woodwork, or Hindu devotional sculpture.
