A significant period Thai temple bronze Buddha dating from the late 18th to early 19th c in the earlier Sukhothai style. Bronzes of this scale and construction are commonly seen mounted on side altars in Thai wats, particularly in viharns and monastic meditation halls. c. 1750–1850
A substantial Thai bronze Buddha, seated in dhyāna, meditation, mudrā, cast in a classical Sukhothai-derived idiom and mounted on an architectural tiered pedestal. The figure displays a flame ushnisha, refined facial modelling, and slender proportions characteristic of Thai temple bronzes.
The hollow-cast base, open underside, and lateral fixing points indicate that this figure was originally secured to a wooden or masonry altar, rather than intended as a free-standing domestic piece. Bronzes of this scale and construction are commonly seen mounted on side altars in Thai wats, particularly in viharns and monastic meditation halls.
Stylistically and technically consistent with late Ayutthaya to early Rattanakosin period production, c. 1750–1850, preserving earlier Sukhothai aesthetics. The surface shows natural oxidation and wear consistent with long-term shrine use.
A serious and well-proportioned temple bronze, suitable for a collector of Southeast Asian art, Buddhist material culture, or as a focal sculptural object.
