The period of the 9th-13th centuries is the time of the heyday of Kyivan Rus and active contacts with the Scandinavians, Byzantium and neighboring European peoples. Metallurgy of that time was at a high level, and blacksmiths made not only weapons, but also high-quality household knives.

 

Small knives, similar to the presented artifacts, were used in everyday life - for processing food, making handicrafts and even in ritual practices. Some of them could be part of military equipment or an auxiliary tool in campaigns.
