This Hirondelle (Swallow) car mascot (hood ornament) is by the renown French sculpture and artist *Lalique, having catalogue No.1143, and signed 'R. Lalique France'.

This was first introduced onto the market on the 10th of February 1928. It is mounted onto a contemporary Breves Galleries metal illuminating radiator base., with lighting bulb and coloured filters inside (however please see the condition report here). Display mounted onto a non-contemporary black plastic plinth.

This is a contemporary period piece. These bases are highly desirable and sought after and very difficult to find now!

See images 1 & 2 above of this particular piece. We do have the other Lalique mascots and related pieces available for sale as listed here. The condition is superb, undamaged in clear & frosted hardened glass.

Condition report: The hardened glass mascot of the bird is in near perfect condition with some polishing to the highlights and the end of the beak. I have not been able to inspect the condition of the circular base, but I'm *assured it is un-damage.
The inner parts of the metal mount are all intact, however the actual protruding battery electrical connection holder is not there, and I don't have this (a modern version of this should be available commercially).

*I'm assured by the auction house where I purchased this that the inners are present, but I cannot take off the screw plate to dismantle it to inspect the inside without possible damage to the piece, so I have pointed this fact out in this listing to be fair and honest. Just to add that if at any time an expert/electrician can dismantle and examine this I will revise the listing with the result.

*René Jules Lalique was a French jeweller, medallist, and glass designer whose innovative Art Nouveau and Art Deco creations included jewellery, perfume bottles, vases, lighting, and more famously his automobile mascots. Trained in Paris and London, he revolutionized jewellery with natural motifs and diverse materials before focusing on glass, producing iconic opalescent designs and architectural works. His Wingen-sur-Moder factory ensured his legacy beyond his death in 1945.
