VINTAGE Large Abalone Shell

Estate find from friends of the family, who were jewelry makers. They used the nacre (mother-of-pearl) from abalone shells to make necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc.

This shell is 7.5 inches long by 6 inches wide and weighs about 15 ounces. It is stunningly iridescent on the inside, reflecting a variety of pink, gold, and aqua tones.

I am not sure what type of abalone this particular shell is from.

Could also be used as an incense burner, smudge bowl, or aquarium or other display.
