Description:

Tin Aung Htaik (Burma, 1943-2016) was a Burmese artist known for his watercolor paintings, often depicting scenes of traditional architecture, landscapes, and cultural life. His work is characterized by its focus on the beauty of Myanmar's heritage, with common themes including pagodas, ancient monasteries, and everyday life. He was an active artist, leaving a significant body of work created after he retired from his roles at the War Museum and Defense Services Historical Research Institute in 1995.

The painting we have here is a watercolor on paper. It is a view of Shwedagon Pagoda built on Singuttara Hill, a small hill in the city of Yangon, Myanmar. There are villagers with their oxen team walking on a dirt road, village huts are built in a row in the center with the Pagoda shown atop the hill with architecture off in the distance. The painting is signed and titled lower right "Tin Aung Shweman" (Shwedagon). It is housed within an edged glued mat and backerboard, the watercolor itself appears to be glued in each corner to the backer board. Overall a nice painting with subtle pastel color palette.

Measures; sight size 11 3/4" x 16 3/4" outside border 16" x 20".

Condition:

The mat around the actual painting is a bit stained, watercolor shows a small amount of foxing in the sky, otherwise is in overall good condition. Please view all photos as they are part of the description.

My name is Kevin Bruneau and I have been in the fine arts and collectibles business for over 30 years. I've owned antique shops, auction houses, a consignment shop, and even did a TV reality show hunting down collectible treasures. Today I travel hundreds of miles per week to find interesting pieces to bring to my BKCranston eBay site. Most items are sourced from local house-calls, auctions, and estate tag and yard sales. My interests are broad so you will never know what I will list next. It could be an old master paintings or a baseball card collection. Be sure to check in often, as my store and auction offerings are forever growing and changing with fun and interesting new inventory.
