Arseniy Lapin (born in Mytishchi, Russia, in 1977) is an artist, painter, illustrator, and sculptor known for his fantastical and folkloric art. He is also known as "Arselap". Lapin began his art education at a school for gifted children in 1986. He later graduated from the High Art School of Film Animation in 1994. After college, he worked for several years as a puppeteer and artist for a puppet theater. His experience with puppets is visible in the creative and theatrical nature of his art, especially his carved sculptures. In 1997, he received the Golden Masque Prize, Russia's most prestigious theater award. While his early career involved animation and theater, Lapin has also exhibited paintings in galleries across Moscow, Belgrade, Strasbourg, and Geneva since 1996. He also carves wooden sculptures of his imaginative characters. He has taught visual arts at the Myitischi Art School for Gifted Children since 1996, the same school where he began his studies. As an author and illustrator, Lapin has created children's stories inspired by sea adventures and other folk tales. He has also worked to publish his illustrated books in multiple languages.
