Beautiful good quality antique flat back 8 string Art Nouveau mandolin/mandolinetto in guitar shape.

This mandolin was originally made By Ewald Glaesel, a German Luthier.

Labelled inside; "By his Majesty's Royal letters patent No 2272, Neapolitan College of Music".

Plank tuners, rosewood fretboard with Mother of Pearl fret markers, solid spruce soundboard, maple back and sides.

The back has beautiful figuring.

Inlaid/marquetry scratch plate with an Art Nouveau design.

Date; around 1905.

Size; measures 633 mm long, neck is 29 mm wide at the nut.

In very good condition overall with some wear and minor marks, see photos.

There is some wear on the original brass frets.

The neck is straight, there are no cracks or repairs but there are several minor areas of seam seperation on the back. This is a typical issue with antique instruments but the back on this one is tight and it doesnt effect how it plays.

The mandolin has a new set of strings and plays very well, bright with excellent sustain.

It is set up with a low action, approx 2.5 mm at the 12th fret.

It will be sent with the strings slackened and well packed in a strong cardboard box for free of charge posting.

Posting out is weekly, within 5 working days of payment, so please check the estimated delivery date.
