Description

Cartes De Visite – Antique Photograph Lot – Daguerreotypes – Men – Women – Children  12 Images

  • This lot came from a collector of photographic ephemera.
  • All of these are original photographic prints, not modern printed copies.
  • Five images are of men. Three are classic Carte DeVisite cards (approximately  7 5/8” x 4.25”). Two are of the same person, the name on the back of one of those is Frank Alfred Rylander. The small, narrow card with the image of a man on it appears to be a Daguerreotype: changing the angle of viewing shows a negative image. On the back it looks like there is the name “Gridley” and Josie Smith first husband. The name might be Grisley or Grinley.
  • The other narrow card with the young child on it has a notation on the back indicating it is Melvin Gridley. It also looks like a Daguerreotype. The photo of the infant mounted on a dark card has no marks. The Carte De Viste of the young man has the entire back of the card is covered with names and dates from 1901 to 1915.
  • There are three Carte De Visit cards with women and one photo of a woman mounted on a dark card. None have names.

Refund Policy: Items that are not as described will result in a refund of the bid amount upon return of the item in the condition in which it was shipped.  This does not apply to finding a small scratch when the description says minor surface wear or similar issues.  If a package is damaged in transit, and if it was insured, the buyer must cooperate in filing the insurance claim (not a big deal).  The box and packing material must be kept and available for the post office if an item is insured and damaged in transit.  If an issue is not addressed in the description (I attempt to provide comprehensive descriptions) or if the bidder doesn’t understand the description and he or she did not ask a question about it, no refund will be made. Note: if the Post Office damages an item and still delivers it, it will refund only the bid amount and not the postage.  I will not make up the difference.
