Details: "The Gospel of Mark is significant in many ways. Not only was it the first Gospel to be written and an important literary source for Matthew and Luke, but it is also best characterized as a witness document, a proclamation of salvation through Jesus Christ, which received its creative impulse from the early apostolic preaching.  Mark bears witness to the word of revelation that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.
In this widely praised commentary by William L. Lane, Mark is revealed as a theologian whose primary intention was the strengthening of the people of God in a time of firery persecution by Nero.  Using redaction criticism as a hermeneutical approach for understanding the text and the intention of the evangelist, Lane considers the Gospel of Mark as a total literary work and describes Mark's creative role in shaping the Gospel tradition and in exercising a conscious theological purpose.  By taking care to indicate how the text was heard by Mark's contemporaries while also placing the study of Mark within the frame of reference offered by modern Gospel research, Lane has constructed a thorough-going work that is at once useful to scholars and highly intelligible to nonspecialists."  (from the dust jacket flap)
The book has a tan cloth binding with maroon lettering on the spine.

About Us:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. We have been sellers of antiquarian books for over 20 years, and our experience helps ensure quality descriptions of our rare and collectable books. Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free.

We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do.

Customer Service:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help.

Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us!

Packaging:

We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.

Delivery:

We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
