Here is a beautiful tabular and completely crystallized Quartz crystal, with inclusions of a fibrous and needle like mineral crystals. The finer crystals make the Quartz appear blue. Even though this resembles vaguely the Quartz with Indicolite tourmaline crystals found on occasion in Brazil. This is in fact Magnesio-Riebeckite which is included in the Quartz, and this specimen is from Zagi Mountain, in Pakistan, on the Northwest Frontier with Afghanistan. This locality has produced a host of rare minerals and mineral combo's. Many pieces of "Rutile" included Quartz from this locality, actually turn out to be Quartz with Riebeckite inclusions. That said, Rutile, and Rutile included Quartz is also found at this locality. Riebeckite is an Amphibole mineral and will often form wither needle like crystals, or even fibrous masses. When the crystals become that thin, they become, or appear, blue, which is what you see in this Quartz crystal group. The crystal contains both habits of Riebeckite, the needle like crystals, which appear blackish(look superficially like Tourmaline needles, but with a loupe you will see that the crystal habit is different..), as well as more fibrous crystals, which appears as light blue cloudy area's. Very good example of this rare and unique combo, and the quartz, as said, is crystallized on all sides, making this a floater. This specimen is 55 grams, or 1 7/8 oz in weight. The size is 2.2 inch x 2 inch x 1 inch.
