1945 STERLING SILVER

4 SLICE TOAST RACK

Heavy gauge sterling silver

toast rack with full British

hallmarks for:

Sheffield 1945

Makers stamp:

ES

No name recorded for these

initials but work seen with this

stamp dating to between

1931 and 1946.

It never ceases to amaze me

that items like this in sterling silver

were made virtually at the end

of the war when everyone was

on rations and probably didn’t

have bread to toast!

Also the period between 1931 and

1946 would have had to be the

toughest period of the 20th century

to make and sell luxury goods –

I feel sorry for ES.

Anyway he/she made very good

quality toast racks and this one

has survived in very good condition

CONDITION

In very good vintage condition

with few signs of age and use.

Hallmarks are crisp.

General age related surface marks

as would be expected from old item.

The four feet are splayed (by design)

but one is a bit straighter than the others

hence there is the TINIEST bit of wobble

when it’s standing on a flat surface but

of no real consequence and only

mentioning for accuracy of description.

DIMENSIONS

It measures approximately:

9cm (3 ½ ") high

7.6 cm (3") long

5cm (2") wide

It weighs: 62.4 grams
