A hand finished series ware plate of

The Gaffer, an older man, is standing

 outside his cottage.


He is dressed in traditional smock

and black high hat I think from

Somerset.


He is holding basket in his right hand

and a stick with his left.


The series ware produced in the 1920 – 1930s.


There were 19 different scenes designed

by Charles Noke.


His signature is on the right above the

word GAFFERS”.

 

On the back is a unique back stamp

for the Gaffers series and

impressed 5  30 (May 1930).

 

CONDITION 

This plate is in exceptional condition.

 No crazing!


No chips, cracks or repairs.

From the lack of surface marks  -

very few at all – I am sure it has

never been used – only displayed.

It measures approximately:

21.5cm (8 ½ ") diameter 

It weighs: 346 grams
