DESCRIPTION:

Antique cobalt blue square-well ink bottle dating to the 1875–1890 period. Hand-blown in a two-piece mold with a sheared and fire-finished lip and a molded kick-up base showing a natural swirl from manufacture. The bottle features two molded pen-rest indentations on the shoulders, designed to hold a dip pen across the top during use.

Displays strong early glass character including whittle texture, small bubbles, uneven thickness, and the crude finish expected from late 19th-century hand production. Deep cobalt color shows beautifully in both natural and backlit display. No cracks; minor expected base wear and light interior haze typical of age.

NOTES:

Desirable cobalt example of the square-well ink with molded pen rests. Excellent display piece for writing desk or antique glass collectors.
