A derailleur hanger, otherwise known as a mech hanger, mech dropout, cast hanger, mountain bike hanger and hanger dropout, are a piece of metal that is attached to the rear frame of a bike. The main job of a derailleur is to adsorb any strain, resulting in either snapping or bending to protect the frame of the bike.
