The "Les Paul Classic," released in 1990, was akin to the "Les Paul Reissue," the predecessor to the "Historic Collection." While the "Les Paul Standard," which was sold alongside it, was a Nashville-made Les Paul from the late '70s onward, the "Les Paul Classic" boasted vintage-feel specs, including nickel hardware. This particular instrument is a 2001 "Les Paul Classic Premium Plus Lemon Burst" featuring a rare AAA flame maple top. It features Kluson-style tuning machines, a 1960s-inspired slim taper neck profile, a vintage-style ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, and nickel hardware. Other features that differentiate it from the "Les Paul Standard" include a slim taper neck and a high-power 496R/500T ceramic magnet pickup combination. While it claims to be a reissue model in many ways, its playability and sound are rather modern, earning it the reputation of being a "Les Paul for heavy metal/hard rock." This duality is also part of this instrument's fascinating character. While there are minor scratches, lacquer wear, and slight marks throughout, there is no noticeable damage, and it appears relatively clean considering its age. The neck is in good condition, and even with the current low-action setting, it offers excellent playability. The "Premium Plus" model was sold new without a pickguard by default, showcasing the prominent grain of the top. While the original pickguard is missing, this top, with its well-defined grain and large, swaying grain, may be better left without a pickguard. This is a lightweight, well-balanced instrument.
