FAQs
🌿 Which plants can I use for this potting mix?
Cephalotus
Darlingtonia
Drosera (Sundews)
Nepenthes (Monkey Traps)
Pinguicula (Butterworts)
Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia)
Utricularia
Venus Fly Traps
Why make it bio-active?
By selection 'Yes Please!', we'll add worm castings which are a microbe-rich addition to your soil mix, produced by worms. They improve soil structure, boost plant growth and support beneficial microbes - all promoting a healthier, more resilient plant. Note: Worm castings are just the byproduct of worm digestion so your mix will not have worms in it!
How often should I repot my Carnivorous Plant?
THE HOUSEPLANT DOCTOR™ recommends transplanting them as soon as they are purchased, and then every two to three years thereafter.
Why should I choose THE HOUSEPLANT DOCTOR™ Soil Mixes over competitors?
We use the top quality aggregates within the horticultural industry to handcraft our potting mixes. Not only this, but the potting mixes are proven to be pest-free so you won't expect any unwanted guests like Fungus Gnats. We source our products ethically and with conscience for the environment. You will also have the ability to message any houseplant questions to THE HOUSEPLANT DOCTOR™ (Joe Bagley) via Etsy, who has recently released his new book, 'How to Make Your Houseplants Love You'. You can send photos & videos of your plant & he'll get back to you!
Should I water the plant before or after repotting?
THE HOUSEPLANT DOCTOR™ always recommends watering your houseplant twelve hours BEFORE repotting to downplay any risk of 'transplant shock'. Symptoms of this are wilting, leaf curling and suddenly yellowing foliage. You can simply avoid transplant shock by not pulling soil from the roots when repotting; essentially treat the rootball like a puppy!
How soon after repotting should I water again?
It's recommended to wait two days before watering again. For the first three months, focus on pouring the water over where the rootball is, and not around the edge of the pot as this is where the unrooted soil will be.
Any other tips I should know?
THE HOUSEPLANT DOCTOR™ recommends only repotting into the next sized pot, which is usually around 3-5cm wider than its current one. Never use a pot that's too big, or one that doesn't have drainage holes. The best pots to use are transparent ones, whereby you can regularly check the health and state of the roots.
