NOTE SULL'ARTISTA: W. Hogarth (1697-1764), fu il più grande artista inglese del suo tempo ed è ancora oggi universalmente riconosciuto come una delle maggiori personalità delle arti britanniche. Le sue opere, per lo più satiriche e moraliste, sono ambientate prevalentemente a Londra, della cui vita settecentesca ci ha lasciato una testimonianza fondamentale. Fu il primo a produrre in proprio incisioni ricavate dai suoi dipinti, in modo da diffondere più capillarmente la sua opera.
W. Hogarth was one of the most important english painters. The set of its works is London and he has left us a very important testimony of the life in that city in XVIII century.
