Shangaan Amethyst is named after the Shangaan tribe of the Gezani Communal Land in Mateke, Zimbabwe. The crystals come from the Chiredzi district, Masvingo, Zimbabwe.

These crystals are similar to Brandberg and frequently have windows, elestial formations, phantoms, sceptres and double terminations. They often occur in a combination of both Amethyst and Smoky quartz and contain traces of hematite.
