Jordan Grand Prix was a Formula One team founded by Irish businessman Eddie Jordan in 1991. The team was based in Silverstone, England, and became one of F1’s most colourful and charismatic outfits during the 1990s and early 2000s. Bold personality and team spirit: Eddie Jordan brought a fun, rebellious, and rock-and-roll attitude to Formula 1, making the team a fan favourite. Distinctive yellow cars: Sponsored by brands like Benson & Hedges, the bright yellow livery with hornet-themed designs became iconic.
The Jordan 198 is one of the most iconic and successful cars in the history of the Jordan Grand Prix Formula 1 team. It competed in the 1998 Formula One World Championship, and it marked a turning point — transforming Jordan from a midfield underdog into a genuine front-runner.
The 198 introduced the striking bright yellow “Benson & Hedges” livery with black accents — one of the most recognizable paint schemes in 1990s Formula 1. The car featured humorous designs (like “Buzzin’ Hornets” in place of the tobacco sponsor in restricted markets), adding to Jordan’s playful image.
Drivers:
Heinz-Harald Frentzen joined the team in 1999 but participated in a test at the end of 1998, driving the 198.
Performance & Achievements:
That 1–2 finish at Spa was Jordan’s first-ever Formula 1 victory — achieved in extremely wet conditions, with Damon Hill leading home his teammate after a dramatic, crash-filled race. It’s remembered as one of the most emotional and chaotic grands prix of the decade.
