A stunning mid-19th century French tussie mussie with a highly intricate gilt metal posy holder with delicate, shaped, embossed and chased scrolling leaves, stylised flowers and fine pierced detailing and filigree wirework. In the centre of each side is a formed pansy flower, each set with a brilliant blue turquoise as the heart. The handle is mother of pearl with a hooked end, superbly carved on both sides with a flower rising from a clump of leaves and carved reeded bands just below the join with the ormolu. Pinned through the end is a delicate gilt metal chain ending with a small finger ring with striking raised star pattern. c.1860.

It measures 14cm (5 1/2") long and 3cm (1 1/8") wide.

In excellent condition with no damage or repair and minimal handling wear. Originally there would have been a pin to hold the posy in place.
