1970s Abstract Painting – Untitled #4 – Fernando Mercado

Fernando Mercado (b. 1936, El Paso, Texas) studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and later worked as an illustrator for Boeing Aircraft Corporation. Alongside many fellow California artists, Mercado produced numerous Abstract Expressionist works during the 1960s and 1970s.

This small-scale gouache painting on handmade paper (8 × 6 in) reflects his experimentation with color, composition, and texture. The work is signed and dated “Mercado 73” on the verso. It is in good condition, with no major damage, and remains unframed.
