Recent Buddhist wooden hinged box, decorated in auspicious Buddhist symbols. Hand-painted in a polychrome colour palette with saffron edging. Would make an interesting jewellery box for the spiritually-minded.
THREE AVAILABLE.
These Buddhist boxes decorated in auspicious symbols may be recent, but they have been hand-painted using skills handed down from generation to generation of Nepalese craftsmen. The very act of creating religious artefacts an act of devotion in itself.
A large conch shell, one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols, is depicted being held and guarded by a sea dragon on the front panel. The Endless Knot, a second Symbol, decorates both end panels suggesting endless harmony, with no beginning or end.
Whilst the lid has been painted with a red, blue and green swirling cloud, the Triratna, representing the three jewels of Buddhism, The Buddha, The Enlightened One, the Dharma, the teachings, and the Sangha, the Monastic community.
These three emotive hand-decorated boxes has been sourced from the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. Interesting artefacts from the roof of the world.
