American Hull Pottery

Mushroom Salt & Pepper Shakers

c. mid to late 20th century

These salt & pepper shakers are really attractive and very practical, fairly common in the USA, not so common here.

They are moulded Brown Drip Glaze shakers very similar to Australian Art Pottery.

Impressed mark USA to the base of each

Different light different colour, the first 4 photos taken with a flash, the last 4 are in natural light.

Mushrooms are about 10cm (4") high by 9cm (3 1/2") across the top.

Together they weigh 470g.

CONDITION - In excellent original condition and showing no wear that I can see.

Maybe slightly to the feet as they were on display as cabinet ware when I bought them.

I don't know that they have ever been used.

History:

Hull pottery began production in 1905 in Crooksville, Ohio under the leadership of Addis Emmet (A.E.) Hull.

The Hull Pottery Company's early lines consisted of common utilitarian stoneware. semi-porcelain dinnerware and decorative tile.

 The company quickly established a firm market and enjoyed an excellent reputation for producing quality ceramics.
