An elaborate Chinese tripod bronze censer / incense burner with gilded dragons, bold relief work and pierced cover with Buddha head finial. The inscription to the body of the censer reads 'Buddha's light shines everywhere.'

This censer is marked on the underside 'Made in the Xuande period of the Great Ming'. IMAGE 5. However it is not a 15th c original but a later Xuande rival-style piece from the late Qing Dynasty to early Republic period, c 1880-1930. Possible as late as the mid-20th c. Later bronzes widely carrying the early mark as a tribute or homage to the superb ritual wares produced under the reign of Emperor Xuande.

This piece has been cast in bronze and gilded with highlights on the inscriptions, the twin elephant head handles, lion head feet and dragons. The underside and interior oxidation indicate traditional sand casting not a modern machine copy. It would have been made as a temple or altar incense burner.
