The U.S. two-cent piece was a copper coin minted from 1864 to 1873, designed by James B. Longacre.

It was the first US coin to feature the motto "In God We Trust" and is described as having a shield, arrows, and a wreath on the obverse, with a wreath and the denomination "2 CENTS" on the reverse.

The coin was a response to a coin shortage during the Civil War and was discontinued in 1873 when the shortage ended.
