Description:

A very rare and nicely carved early 20thC colon figure. Derived from carvers from the ivory coast figures like this were carved at the turn of the century during the European colonization of Africa. The surface is all original, it is untouched from estate just as you see. The carving depicts a man with athletic build wearing a pair of traditional European pants with one rolled up leg. Notice the wear to the surface, the hand carved marks and old patina you just can't replicate. I guarantee this as a old one not a reproduction souvenir piece.

Provenance; From a mid upstate Massachusetts estate where two statues (the other is also listed) from the same hand have been present for as long as family can remember back to child their hood. This statue is signed, "Jacques L" to the base.

Measures; 50" tall

Condition:

Loss of hand, wear to edges of ears, overall paint wear and wood wear including check, cracks and splits. Nice old original untouched finish. Overall very good condition. Please view all photographs as they are part of the description.

My name is Kevin Bruneau and I have been in the fine arts and collectibles business for over 30 years. I've owned antique shops, auction houses, a consignment shop, and even did a TV reality show hunting down collectible treasures. Today I travel hundreds of miles per week to find interesting pieces to bring to my BKCranston eBay site. Most items are sourced from local house-calls, auctions, and estate tag and yard sales. My interests are broad so you will never know what I will list next. It could be an old master paintings or a baseball card collection. Be sure to check in often, as my store and auction offerings are forever growing and changing with fun and interesting new inventory.
