Most MOSFETs made today are surface mount, making this leaded device particularly easy to use for hobbyists and amateurs wanting to put together one-off or prototype builds quickly.  The 40673 MOSFET  is a very good in amplifier and mixer applications, with the dual gates allowing for easy gain adjustment. 

The gates are diode protected making them relatively easy to handle without special ESD precautions and soldering equipment.

NOTE: These 40673s were originally custom-selected by RCA for a customer requiring low input capacitance  -  hence the blue/yellow dots.
