I believe this to be a Mexican lava stone carving representing a water dog known as Ahuizotl. It could be a Chinese foo dog but there are no typical characteristics that the Chinese include on their foo dogs. The carving is also a bit rudimentary which is unlike the Chinese. Lava stone is a tropical material on Mexico but not in China so that’s another tick in the Mexico column. It is a great looking piece of traditional folk art either way. It’s toughly 6.25” high, 4” long, and 3” wide. Condition is excellent. I purchased it as part of a lot at an esteemed New England auction house. Ships ASAP! Thanks
