• The stereoview features a comedic scene of a child “Southern Rebel” shooting a prisoner (doll) during the Civil War. The image captures the innocence of children as they play while also shining light onto how the children dealt with the realities of the time.
• The stereoview is an original by Frederick M. Yeager of Reading, Pennsylvania. Lt. Yeager served with the 128th Pennsylvania Infantry and fought at the Battle of Antietam. He was captured at Chancellorsville and held at Libby Prison until he was later exchanged for rebel prisoners. He returned home to Reading in 1863 and became a professional photographer in from 1864 to at least 1874. He was active in veteran's and historical organizations. He was a member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS) and by 1912 was Commander of McLean Post No. 16, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).
• In particular this stereoview is unique in that Lt. Yeager was not well know for staged comedy scenes. His works were better known for landscapes, cityscapes and portraits of scientists or military folks.
