The Story Behind This Photograph
Step back to 1935 at the bustling West 23rd Street Ferry Terminal in New York City. This stunning photograph captures the grand architecture of the Lackawanna and Hoboken Ferries' Manhattan hub, with its magnificent clock tower standing tall against a dramatic sky. On the cobblestone plaza, a 23rd Street Crosstown trolley waits on its tracks, sharing the street with early automobiles and a classic horse-drawn wagon—a perfect snapshot of a city in transition. Prominent signs for the Central Railroad of New Jersey and Reading Lines highlight the terminal's importance as a critical link connecting Manhattan with the burgeoning suburbs and industrial heartlands of New Jersey.

My Handcrafted Process
Each canvas is made by hand from start to finish with close attention to detail, aiming for a durable, long-lasting piece that looks sharp and clean in the home.
- Printed on high-quality artist canvas with pigment inks for deep, stable color that resists fading.
- Frames are built in-house from solid, 0.75"-deep wood for strength and longevity.
- A protective satin varnish is hand-rolled to guard against scuffs, dust, and UV.
- Canvas is hand-stretched for proper tension, and a wire hanger is installed so it's ready to hang on arrival.
What You'll Receive
- A Complete Work of Art: A 12" x 16" handcrafted canvas with a classic 0.75-inch deep profile.
- Classic Gallery Wrap: The photograph itself extends seamlessly around the 0.75-inch deep sides, creating a beautiful, three-dimensional work of art.
- Vivid & Lasting Color: Printed with professional pigment inks for exceptional color and fade resistance.
- Ready to Hang, Instantly: Your canvas arrives with a wire hanger pre-installed. I also include a complimentary hanging hook and nail so you can display it right out of the box.
- Securely Shipped: Packed securely in a sturdy box with USPS tracking.
Color, Cropping & Handmade Notes
- Color: Screen vs. print can differ slightly. Pigment inks and a satin varnish yield deep blacks and a gentle, natural finish; minor shifts are normal.
- Gallery Wrap & Cropping: Please note that the outer edges of the image are used to wrap around the sides. This means the front-facing view will be cropped slightly compared to the full photograph. Care is taken to keep the main subject properly framed.
- Handmade Tolerances: Expect small variances (about ±1/8") in trim and alignment due to hand building and stretching.
- Vintage Texture: Major dust and defects are removed while retaining authentic grain/paper texture so the piece still reads like a period photograph.
- Varnish: Hand-rolled satin varnish protects against scuffs and UV. A faint roller texture can be visible in raking light while the finish cures.
