Dating from the early 20th century, Akasuke Ginbari is a unique Japanese cloisonne in which textured silver foil is wrapped around the metal body (normally brass) before the transparent enamel is applied. The term ‘Akasuke’ refers to a special pigeon blood red color. The design on this fine example is of bamboo stalks and leaves, set against the typical textured background.
