The sleeve bed was designed by Dez Jenner, and handmade in the UK from 14oz cotton canvas fabric, using heavy duty Gütermann M36 core spun polyester thread for maximum seam strength.

The design was inspired by Horace Kephart, one of the pioneers of bushcraft, in his classic 1916 book "Camping and Woodcraft".

The fabric was waterproofed in the UK, ensuring protection against rain and moisture.
It is also rot-resistant, so can withstand prolonged exposure to moisture and damp conditions without deteriorating.

The sleeve bed features two 25cm wide (approx) side sleeves, allowing branches up to 15cm diameter to be inserted to use as supports.

It has 10 solid brass eyelets at each end to allow the sleeve bed to be turned into a sleeping bag or stuffed with dry grass (or similar) to form a "browse bed".

The sleeve bed is 220cm long x 150cm wide (approx), and weighs 5.5kg (approx).

I use a hand-cranked Singer sewing machine, which was built in 1935 and has been in my family since new.

It is supplied with a matching cotton canvas case, with a solid brass press stud fastening.
