Sting is a finely crafted Elven blade, small enough to be carried comfortably by a Hobbit yet strong and keen as any sword of the Elves. Forged long ago in the hidden city of Gondolin, its leaf-shaped blade bears a subtle blue sheen, and its simple hilt carries delicate Elvish design. Though modest in size, Sting possesses remarkable qualities, most notably its ability to glow with a blue light whenever Orcs or Goblins are near, serving as a steadfast warning in dark and perilous places. First discovered by Bilbo Baggins in a Troll hoard during his journey with Thorin and company, it proved its worth when he used it to defend himself against the giant spiders of Mirkwood, after which he gave it the name “Sting.” Later passed down to Frodo Baggins, it accompanied him on the long and dangerous road to Mordor, where its keen edge and warning glow became vital in the struggle against darkness.
