The 11th century was fateful for the city of Toledo

Over four centuries, from 712 to 1085, the Arabians ruled over Toledo. Under their rule, Toledo flourished in art and science, in the silk and cotton industry as well as in its fabrication of arms. Toledo’s damascene blades and inlays made by the gold – and silversmiths of the city went by the name Toledo and carried its unique tecnique into the world. In 1085 Alfons VI of Castilia conquered the city and appointed Toledo as his royal residence in 1087. In memory of this very historical 11th century, Pelika decided to restrict the LE Toledo 1931 to 1100 pieces worldwide.

The original Toledo, dating back to 1931, was a true rarity even in its own time and already then iit was simply outstanding. With its elaborate processing and its extraordinary look, it soon became the center-piece of many valuable collections.

2003 limited-edition renaissance is no different. 

As the final highlight and crowning of the OoTT series,  in 2003 Pelikan presented  the OoTT Toledo LE1931. 

Made distinctive by high-quality original materials and the finest detailing.

The eye-catcher on this etraordinary fountain peni s a valuable Toledo barrel made in Toledo, Spain in the exquisite tradition of Damascene art. In meticolous hand-work, ornaments of gold are laid into the basic iron material. In twelve steps, the wafer-thin golden patterns are processed and carefully embossed into the iron with the finest special tools. Made exclusive by an 18-carat, individually hand-tested gold nib. 

Most of all it is distinguished by its ring which is hand-made in Toledo – the city that gave this jewel its name.

Further typical characteristics are the body of black ebonite as well as the cap sleeve and cap top made of celluloid. The cap top is decorated with the engraved historical Pelikan logo of 1931.

The Toledo 1931 can be considered at once a writing instrument and a work of art.

Only 1100 pens worldwide.

The specimen here offered for sale comes in near mint condition. It appears to have never been inked or used in any way.
