SHALLOW GROUND: This independent horror film combines elements of the genre that will keep all types of fans happy, relying equally on gore, atmosphere, and a narrative of suspense and mystery. Local sheriff Jack Sheppard, still wracked with guilt a year after failing to solve a series of murders, is forced to close down his precinct. However, on his final day, Sheppard is presented with his first lead in the case for months, in the form of a blood covered naked man who stumbles into the station. Unfortunately, the man seems to be a total amnesiac, unaware if he has committed any crime. EVIL REMAINS: Mark (Daniel Gillies) is a graduate student writing his thesis on urban legends. He convinces his friends to accompany him on an investigation of a backwoods plantation where a pair of murders took place years before. But as the group discover more and more about the property and its former occupants, they find themselves in grave danger as well. Former model Estella Warren and Ashley Scott also star in director James Merendino's re-working of the now-traditional slasher film narrative.

SEVERED: FOREST OF THE DEAD: A multi-national forestry company engages in genetic experimentation to increase logging yield in a remote section of forest. But the experimentation goes disastrously wrong, transforming a disparate group of loggers and environmental activists into the "infected" - ravenous, zombie-like creatures who prey upon the few terrified survivors while they attempt to understand and control the disaster. Stars: Paul Campbell, Sarah Lind, Julian Christopher, J.R. Bourne and Michael Teigen.

GONE DARK: A cop takes desperate measures to protect her identity in this urban thriller. Monica (Claire Forlani) is a police detective who has been sent undercover to crack open a drug-dealing operation run by Gale (Pete Postlethwaite). However, maintaining her cover has taken a heavy toll on Monica -- she's become romantically involved with Gale, and is now addicted to heroin. To make matters all the more dangerous for her, Monica has also been having a relationship with Denny (Henry Czerny), Gale's second in command. Denny lives in the same apartment building as an elderly woman named May (Lauren Bacall); Denny and May often get each other's mail, and as a result occasionally pass misdirected letters back and forth. When Denny is found dead, Monica begins to suspect that May might have a package from Denny that could blow her cover and reveal her true identity to Gale; desperate to find out how much May knows and what she could prove, Monica takes her hostage, but neither is sure what Monica will do when her need for heroin takes hold.

SPLICED: Young and troubled teen Mary (Liane Balaban) is obsessed with horror movies and refuses to stop watching them even though she has hideously bloody nightmares and sleepwalks into traffic. Her school psychiatrist (Ron Silver) is powerless to keep her from seeing a new hit movie called "The Wisher," in which a pale-faced, razor-fingered, cloaked demon obeys wishes in the most terrible manner. What do you know, once Mary sees the movie, her wishes start coming true, which is bad news for her dad and friends. Mary suspects someone, perhaps that cute boy who has a crush on her (Drew Lachey), is committing these awful crimes - or could it be a supernatural being after all?

BLOOD GNOME: A crime-scene photographer stumbles onto a horrific discovery when he gets too close to a series of murders linked to a secret S & M ring specializing in blood games. Before he knows it, Daniel (Vincent Bilancio) starts to have strange hallucinations of hideous puppet-creatures appearing before his camera lens. When co-worker's start questioning his sanity, the hapless hero turns to the bottle and delves deep into the heart of the bondage world, where not everything is as it seems. Softcore bombshell Julie Strain also makes an appearance as a member of a bloody orgy that gets chomped on late in the film.

THE DEMON WITHIN: Sarah is a beautiful young artist who moves to San Francisco to escape her guarded and repressed past. She finds herself living next door to Dobie, a discredited actor and murderer, who is a master of disguise and seriously deranged. Slowly their two worlds start to connect as she begins creating strange, demon-like creatures from clay, including the head of one of Dobie's victims. As Dobie begins channeling his evil forces into Sarah, the demon seed is spawned. Stars: Jeff Fahey, Patrick Bauchau, Katie Wright, Emmanuelle Vaughn and Allen Butler.

HELL'S GATE 11:11: As a young girl Sarah Tobias was forever scarred by the savage murder of her parents and the horrifying image of the numbers "11:11" written in blood next to their lifeless bodies. Eighteen years after the tragedy, a series of paranormal events shake the small town Sarah calls home.
