The Thing From Another World (1951) Warner/Turner 2003 DVD (Snapcase), UPC 053939668629, is a single-disc release from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, in collaboration with Turner Classic Movies, issued on August 5, 2003. This classic sci-fi horror film, directed by Christian Nyby and produced (and reportedly co-directed) by Howard Hawks, stars Kenneth Tobey as Captain Patrick Hendry, Margaret Sheridan as Nikki Nicholson, and James Arness as the titular "Thing"—an alien creature thawed from Arctic ice. Set at a remote polar outpost, the story follows U.S. Air Force crew and scientists who discover a crashed UFO and its menacing occupant, leading to a tense battle for survival. Running 87 minutes, it’s a black-and-white, NR-rated film celebrated for its snappy dialogue, Cold War paranoia, and pioneering genre influence.

The DVD is Region 1 (U.S. and Canada), presented in standard full-screen (1.33:1 aspect ratio) with English Dolby Digital Mono audio, plus French and Spanish mono tracks. Subtitles are available in English, French, and Spanish. The 2003 transfer offers decent clarity for its age, preserving Russell Harlan’s crisp cinematography—deep blacks, stark whites, and moody shadows—though it lacks the refinement of later remasters like the 2018 Blu-ray. Audio is clean and sharp, emphasizing Dimitri Tiomkin’s eerie score and overlapping dialogue, a Hawks signature.

Packaged in a snap case—a slim, plastic clamshell with a snap closure common in early 2000s DVDs—the cover art  features the Thing, with Tobey and Sheridan in heroic poses, accented by Warner/Turner branding. Special features are minimal, including only the theatrical trailer, making it a barebones release typical of Warner’s early DVD catalog. The disc itself may sport a simple silver design with the title and studio logos.

This edition appeals to fans of vintage sci-fi and collectors of snap-case DVDs. It’s a solid representation of the 1951 classic—fast-paced, atmospheric, and quotable ("Watch the skies!").
