One of Oikawa's signature features is the meticulous finishing that utilizes the advantages of iron without coating the interior with substances like enamel.
While some foundries skip the final step of "kinke tome" process due to cost competition Oikawa Foundry always performs it to guarantee quality.
Experience the mellowness of white hot water unique to Nambu ironware based on the traditional manufacturing methods and enjoy the aging process.
Key features of Oikawa Nambu Ironware:
Point 1: Discover the deliciousness of white hot water; tap water tastes smoother!
When boiling tap water in Nambu ironware the iron's effect reduces lime and chlorine resulting in a smoother and tastier water. Tea or coffee brewed with water boiled in the iron teapot is exquisite.
Those new to using iron teapots will be surprised by the smooth taste of hot water.
Point 2: Health benefits of iron supplementation
Boiling water in an iron teapot releases iron which is easily absorbed by the body and is rich in divalent iron. Hence iron teapots have long been useful in preventing anemia.
Unlike iron from supplements or medicine iron from the teapot acts gently on the body.
Enjoy the health benefits while adding a touch of enjoyment to your daily life.
※A teapot with enamel-coated interior cannot provide iron supplementation. Oikawa's Nambu iron teapots retain the iron interior.
Point 3: Develops a unique flavor over time
An outstanding characteristic of Nambu iron teapots is that over time mineral deposits build up inside enhancing the flavor unique to the teapot.
Mineral deposits are excellent for the teapot's condition. As you use and pile up these deposits the teapot's taste deepens.
When delivered the teapot has been treated with traditional urushi lacquer to prevent severe rust (resulting in water turning red) ensuring durability.
As you continue to use it the urushi naturally peels off allowing mineral deposits to form gradually making the teapot stronger.
Using an iron teapot is about enjoying its transformations. With continuous use it becomes a tool for a lifetime lasting for decades.
Characteristics of Oikawa Nambu Ironware
How to start using and wash after use
To start using a new teapot rinse lightly then boil 1-2 cups of tea leaves in 8 parts of water for 20 minutes.
Repeat the process of boiling water and discarding it 2-3 times.
After use as tea stains and discoloration may appear inside it acts as protection against rust.
Rinsing with warm water without using detergent is sufficient.
After use discard any remaining water while hot and let it dry.
If rust develops
Since Nambu ironware is made of iron it may rust over time.
The red spots that appear after about three months are a feature of ironware.
This rust also adds to the water's flavor so do not remove it continue using it as it is.
When the water starts to turn red it's time for maintenance.
Boil tea in it to react with the tannins and prevent any impact on the water.
After the tea starts to boil empty it while hot then naturally dry the insides.
If needed repeat this process 2-3 times if rust color persists.
When the inner layer starts to peel off
With prolonged use the urushi lacquer may peel off gradually
