The Rats’ fourth studio album, Mondo Bongo, released in December 1980, marks a stylistic shift into more eclectic territory—blending new wave, pop, and political commentary. Produced by Tony Visconti and recorded at Ibiza Sound Studios, the album includes the UK Top 10 hit “Banana Republic” and the haunting “Elephants Graveyard.” This was the final album recorded with guitarist Gerry Cott before his departure, making it a transitional yet essential piece in the band’s discography.
