Description
ANTIQUE CANDLESTICK TELEPHONE
Interesting and unusual antique candlestick telephone measuring about 11" tall - base is about 5-1/4" wide. Made of black Bakelite, heavy base is hollow with a pedestal design, complete with original fabric covered cord linking the base and solid Bakelite earpiece. Microphone mouthpiece is a flatter design and pierced for sound, candlestick column is covered in brass (I think) and there is no dial face by design. Marked PROCESSING INSPECTION on the base underside, it also bears the faintest square stamp mark on the earpiece back - it is illegible, but I darkened the photo a bit to try to bring out the numbers. Made by Kellogg, and dating around 1915.
Condition is good with a chipped area of loss on the back column where it meets the Bakelite as shown - minor usage wear, a fine nip on the edge of the earpiece, and switch hook arm has too much play. The cord connecting the earpiece to the telephone base has no fraying or damage - Bakelite is without cracks. Structurally sound, it is definitely a conversation piece - fun addition to any collection or display!
