This is a proper Karrimor pack from the pre-Mike Ashley days. In Army Green. So this is well built, well designed with proper mountain heritage. It's absolutely NOT a Sports Direct special. There are way too many terrible 'SD' Karrimor packs out there in the second hand market, this isn't one of those......
This is 30 litres of hard-wearing nylon in a simple design that'll stand years more abuse without doubt.
Please note, there are some battle scar small abrasions and tiny holes from carrying a pair of ice axes. Check the photos and decide if you're cool with this. I've made no attempt to fix them as they've 'refused' to get any worse. Consider these carefully before pressing the purchase button. If you purchase it and would like the scars fixed I can apply McNett Sticky Tape which is a pretty permanent fix, please let me know.
I've also cleaned off the remaining aging, and sticky internal PU lining, with a isopropyl treatment. I've done this successfully with a number of old packs as I much prefer a waterproof dry bag inside the pack. For those who understand the problems associated with PU linings you'll get this. Again please consider this before purchasing.
I've also rid of the internal (removable anyway) foam framesheet as on a pack of this size for winter days out I found it unnecessary. Again please consider this before buying. For the experienced out there, you'll be fine using this without the framesheet. There's still enough stiffish foam in there preventing kit pushing through to your back.
Features are bare minimum:
Dual side compression straps Zipped lid pocket Twin ice axe loops + straps Twin buckle closure Two litre extension collar Top pocket attachment straps 50mm Dual clasp hip-belt Proper haul loop
The bar tacking is on an industrial scale - check the photos. The stated 30 litres is about right. Big enough for winter days out on the high fells for those with some experience.
The shoulder strap foam is as firm as the day we bought the pack. The hip-belt is a simple 50mm wide strap with twin buckle closing. The back panel looks pretty much unused also.
Please check the photos.
