A landmark in industrial metal, Obsolete is Fear Factory’s third studio album and their first fully realized concept record. Originally released in 1998, it presents a dystopian narrative—Conception 5—set in the year 2076, where machines have overtaken humanity. Co-produced with Greg Reely and Rhys Fulber (who also handled the atmospheric keyboard arrangements), the album blends mechanical precision with raw aggression. Tracks like “Edgecrusher” and “Resurrection” became genre staples, pushing the band into mainstream recognition while retaining their uncompromising sonic identity.
