《長江萬里圖》是1968年張大千為賀張群八十壽辰，積十日之功精心繪製，畫幅的表現形式為傳統之中國手卷。主要景點起自四川境內的長江上游，可以從畫中明指的有岷江、都江堰、索橋、導江玉壘、重慶、萬縣、三峽、宜昌、武漢三鎮、廬山、小孤山、黃山、蕪湖、南京、鎮江、金山寺、焦山、上海，至崇明島出海為止，彰顯了大千「潑寫兼施、色墨交融」 風格。畫幅由同盟會會員參加過辛亥革命和二次革命的趙恆惕簽題。
 
 
此作在表現形式上大致有三個特色
 
一、長達三十公尺的布局，主要以鳥瞰之構圖方式展現了連綿不絕的動勢和空間，將不同之時空視點，納入同一視覺空間，透顯了中國文化的宇宙觀。畫面上疏密明暗的安排，絕無單調重複之病，並有一氣呵成的整體感。
 
二、通幅畫面予以一種水氣濕潤、青翠盎然的感覺，將那種濃郁幽深、鬱鬱蒼蒼的江南景致，表現得極為動人，同時也呈現了張大千個人深厚之人文情感。
 
三、綜合張大千平生畫風與技法，舉凡潑墨、潑彩、用筆、點染、蔭濕、流動、沈漬、干印等各項技法之運用，營造出長江山水龐大蜿延的氣勢。張氏在這幅作品中具有一項特殊成就，即是將濃艷的青綠設色與工致的筆調融入文人山水的筆墨中，在文人畫家和職業畫家間的調和上表現了他最大的企圖和努力，達於前人所未及之境地。《長江萬里圖》兼重筆調的雄渾與秀潤，並以張大千潑寫兼施的個人風格，奠定了張氏在中國山水畫上不可憾動的地位。
