This is the delightful Solitaire version from the Montblanc 2017 UNICEF collection - the design is inspired by the Rosetta stone and blue lacquered barrel and cap feature the first characters learnt by children around the world. The trim is platinum-coated.

The platinum coated cap of this special pen is embossed with the first letters of the 6 most learnt alphabets from all over the world. 

It also contains a precious little blue sapphire gem, of 1.9 millimetres. This is the specific characteristic of the pens that are produced in partnership with Unicef.

The concerned pen has been previously dipped. Otherwise it comes in excellent, near mint condition. Still with 'M' sticker glued on the turning knob.

All original boxes and stamped papers (purchased at the Montblanc Boutique in Geneva, Switzerland). The matching Montblanc for Unicef Turquoise Blue (50ml, Made in Austria) is included as well.

Together with UNICEF, we see education as a fundamental human right - and as a force. A force that can break through generational cycles of poverty and disease. Since the start of our cooperation, Montblanc has donated over 10 million USD through 4 initiatives benefiting numerous UNICEF programmes around the world. The impact of the millions of dollars raised over a decade of partnership can be witnessed on the ground in many countries, where more children are finding their way to a better education.

In Ethiopia, for example, an estimated 85 per cent of primary-school-aged children are now enrolled.

Writing is a key pillar of education. And it will be the foundation for our 2017 collaboration with UNICEF. When we talk about writing, we don't talk about a specific language or region. Writing is universal. To emphasise this, we gave our iconic Meisterstück a special twist with a blue sapphire celebrating the bond between the maison and UNICEF.

The six handwritten characters featured in the design are the first letters children learn to write at school in six different world languages. Because the preparation teachers receive before beginning their work in the classroom affects education quality, UNICEF pro-grammes fund teacher training, learning assessments and guidance and tools to support improved learning outcomes for all children. Montblanc is supporting this cause with a comprehensive collection across categories: leather, writing instruments, watches and jewellery. Each item sold between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018 raises the amount donated* to providing more children access to primary education of a better quality. Six letters, six signs of progress.

The Montblanc for UNICEF Collection symbolises a worldwide bond with six very special written characters incorporated into the design: A (Roman), 1j (the Chinese sign for "you'), I (the first character of the Arabic alphabet), * (the Japanese vowel

"a'), -t (a combination of the first Korean consonant and vowel) and 37 (the first Hindi character learned by children). The inspiration for this design comes from the Rosetta Stone. With its multilingual inscription, this ancient artefact was one of the first signs of international understanding and cooperation - one more reason to honour it today. The Meisterstück, Writing is a Gift Edition made of black precious resin with platinum-coated fittings is available in different sizes and features the international characters encircling the cap ring. In the Doué Classique Edition, these characters are engraved into the metal cap. The Blue Solitaire Edition is adorned on both cap and barrel with an elegant pattern created from the characters engraved on a blue lacquer background.

The blue lacquer of the Blue Solitaire Edition and the radiant hue of the sapphire adorning each writing instrument in the collection refer to the trademark colour of UNICEF, the worldwide advocate for children. Each fountain pen in the collection features a handcrafted Montblanc nib in bicolour Au 585 gold (the Black Precious Resin Edition), rhodium-coated Au 750 gold (the Doué Classique Edition), and bicolour Au 750 gold (the Blue Solitaire Edition).

The Meisterstück, Writing is a Gift Skeleton 149 Edition celebrates an extraordinary cause with an extraordinary design. Expressing in the most precious materials the priceless gift of writing that is the right of every child, this edition features a platinum-coated, three-dimensional skeleton crafted out of six written characters that children around the world first learn to write. These characters are also embossed on the cap top, which is made of mother-of-pearl and onyx and decorated with a 2.5 mm blue sapphire. Adorning the Au 750 white and yellow-gold nib are the six characters children learn first at school.
