What you are viewing is an original Antique 1920’s Egyptian Revival Japanese hand painted rice paper umbrella featuring images of Anubis weighing a human heart in comparison with a Ma’at feather to determine the persons worthiness in the afterlife. Pieces like this became popular around 1922 when the discovery of Tutankhamen was announced around the world, hitting the fashion world by storm. Most of these Japanese umbrella usualy cary the typical Japanese themes you would imagine finding, and is the only one I’ve ever seen, or could find like it . Umbrella has a 28” diameter paper top when open, and is 27 3/4” long when closed. Piece has some aging and wear from use, but is mostly in central parts where the paper has taken the most stress, but still displays excellent.
