The first ruler of Poland, Prince Mieszko I.

Medal from the series of Polish kings by Witold Korski.

The series was issued in 1972, but the medal with the image of the first Polish ruler was not minted until 1978. The original idea was to present only the images of the rulers who minted their own coins on which the portrait of the king was placed.
 Description
Mieszko I - issue number 0, 1978, diameter 70 mm

- patinated tombac - 971 pieces
- oxidized tombac - 1,700 pieces
- silver 100 pieces

Obverse of the medal: centrally presented MISICO denar, the issue of which until recently was attributed to Mieszko I. Today, however, most of the most prominent medievalists are inclined to the fact that this denarius was struck not by Mieszko, but by Mieszko II, the son of king Bolesław Chrobry. As for the image of the denarius itself, the obverse shows the outline of a hill with a cross on it, and fragments of the inscription MISI [CO] in the rim legend. The reverse, on the other hand, shows a straight cross with crossbars, balls between its arms, along the rim on the extensions of the arms of the swastika cross (a sign symbolizing happiness, prosperity). In the upper part we can see the inscription MISICO and the CMLX date? (960) - CMXCII - first date marked with a question mark as uncertain of the beginning of the ruler's reign.

And on the bottom edge, information about the issue of the medal - PTAiN (issuer), 78 (year of issue), ser. king, No. "0".

Reverse of the medal: the central figure of Mieszko and Dąbrówka in a similar approach as on the Polish coin of 10 zlotys Mieszko and Dąbrówka from 1966. A statue of Światowid from Zbrucz, which is now an exhibit of the Archaeological Museum in Krakow, fell down under his feet. Below, the date of baptism of Poland CMLXVI in Roman numerals. The rim of the medal is decorated with swastikas and a straight cross with "Mieszko I denarius" balls.

Oxidized tombac.
Diameter [mm]: 70 (2 3/4 inch).
 Weight: 132 grams.

Shipments to the USA have been suspended since August 25, 2025. Due to tariffs imposed by the US administration on items contained in letters and parcels, the European Union (including Poland) has suspended shipments. Negotiations are likely ongoing, but no one in Poland can tell me what the future holds. I'm losing a lot because the needs of US customers aren't met.
