About the Book ~
"The Story of Metlakahtla, is a historical account of the Christian mission established by William Duncan among the Tsimshian people in British Columbia. The book details Duncan's approach of integrating Christianity with the preservation of traditional Tsimshian life, his challenges with other tribes and the Canadian government, and the growth of the mission into a thriving community with schools, businesses, and a local government."

"Metlakatla, Alaska, is a unique community with a history rooted in religious migration. In 1887, a group of Tsimshian people, led by Anglican missionary William Duncan, left their settlement in Metlakahtla, British Columbia, seeking religious freedom and autonomy. They established a new settlement on Annette Island, Alaska, which became known as New Metlakatla, and later simply Metlakahtla. The U.S. Congress officially recognized this new community and established the Annette Islands Reserve in 1891."
