Stunning original painting of a Royal Naval Ship, by John Woodman Cobb.

John Woodman Cobb (1916 - 1988) is a British artist renowned for painting portraits of ships. His work hangs in several galleries and museums, including the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum in Birkenhead, UK.  John Woodman Cobb worked as a draughtsman at Cammell Laird and did many illustrations for shipyard brochures and publications, as well as ship portraits. Cammell Laird were a large UK shipbuilder, who designed and built many naval and commercial ships.

I was unable to identify the specific type of naval ship depicted in this painting. However, this painting was from an estate sale and part of a set of 3 naval paintings, where one of the other paintings is of a motor torpedo boat from WW2.

The quality of the light intensity and depth of the sea in this painting makes the image of the ship vividly sing from the canvas. The finish to this painting is matte, so your eye is constantly drawn to the main image. This is a vintage painting, and whilst the painting itself is perfect there are some small marks to the frame only.

Please see the images as they form part of the description.

**Please also see my other items, as I have 2 other naval ship paintings for sale by John Woodman Cobb, including one WW2 era ship. They are listed individually and are striking alone, and evocatively stunning as set together.**
