The size is based on the height of the letter (from the top of the tall letters to the bottom of the long letters). The letter size is based on the height of a capital letter. For example, if you order the name "John," the 'J' will measure 2.5 cm, while the 'ohn' will be proportionally smaller. If your words/names include a letter with a tail (y,p,g,j), this will make the overall height of your word smaller.
