Antique Japanese Kutani Plate With Ronin / Samurai Image 

An attractive antique Japanese decorative ceramic plate, 

featuring asymmetric design split into overlapping images, 

the main picture shows a ronin or samurai in lacquered armour, 

bow and swords at the ready as he crosses a stream in the woods.

the other pictures surrounding show a variety of flowers and a small bird, 

much of the colouring is painted over the glaze and has a slightly more glassy surface, 

along with gilt painted detailing and patterns accentuating the images. 

The reverse has a beautiful green foliage border, 

and shows a hand painted Kutani region mark at the centre.

Plate measures approximately 20 cm's in diameter.

Piece is in good condition, 

there are some small scratches on the underside

there is a little smudging to the gilding, 

(not sure if this is deliberate or a production mistake), 

and some general crazing of the base glaze commensurate with age, 

all as shown in the pictures.
